Recorded live at the Leipzig Opera, Leipzig, June 2005. Uwe Scholz is one of the most brilliant choreographic minds of his generation – he died in November 2004 at the age of 45. The Great Mass is one of the most impressive works of this important neoclassical Choreographer - a truly impressive requiem; a choreographic revelation. The full length Choreography takes its name from Mozart's famous unfinished Mass in C minor and adds other works by the same composer, such as the Adagio and Fugue in C minor and the motet Ave verum corpus as well as passages of Gregorian chant, and sequences from contemporary music by György Kurtág, Thomas Jahn and Arvo Pärt. The Leipzig Ballet is regarded as one of the best ballet companies worldwide. Doris Dörrie (staging) Doris Dörrie, long established and successful director of the German cinema scene, produced a sensational orchestration of Mozart’s Opera to celebrate her debut as stage director. The outstanding performance of the artists met with great interest. The ensemble with Dorothea Röschmann, Katharina Kammerloher, Daniela Bruera, Hanno Müller-Brachmann, Werner Güra and Roman Trekel act youthfully and expressive at the same time. The whole presentation caused a furore. In front of a capacity audience, Dörrie staged her Così in a spectacular hippie style of the 1970s - bedecked with giant flowers and clothing as colourful as the music, directed by musical conductor Daniel Barenboim, provides the background. "Outstanding Dorothea Röschmann as Fiordiligi […]" Neue Züricher Zeitung, 2001 Picture format DVD: NTSC 16:9 Sounds formats DVD: PCM Stereo, DD 5.1, DTS 5.1 Region code: 0 Booklet notes: English, German, French Subtitles: Italian, English, German, French Running time: 179 mins Audience: all “Daniel Barenboim is here at his best, conducting a penetrating, idiomatic account of this astonishing score, and never missing a chance for pathos or wit...Hanno Müller-Brachmann...is tremendous as Guglielmo...The Fiordiligi of Dorothea Röschmann is another electrifying performance.” BBC Music Magazine, August 2010 **** “within its own perameters, Dörrie's production is slick and zanily stylish, with plenty of visual comedy...Barenboim chooses predictably unhurried tempi and is keenly responsive to the music's wit. All six soloists are personable and throw themselves eagerly into Dörrie's 1970s revamp.” Gramophone Magazine, December 2010 | | | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |

| | | Vienna version, 1788Director: Vincent Boussard; Costumes: Christian Lacroix; Designer: Vincent Lemaire and Lighting: Alain Poisson
After the success of Così fan tutte and The Marriage of Figaro, René Jacobs' CD recording of this centrepiece of the Mozart/Da Ponte trilogy offered us his reflections on Classical opera and garnered serious acclaim worldwide. Performed at the Innsbruck festival in August 2006 and filmed in Baden-Baden, this production is nourished by his thoughts on Don Giovanni as taboo-breaker but still respects Mozart's intentions as closely as possible. In the documentary Looking for Don Giovanni, the director Nayo Titzin follows the creation of this production in the search for musical truth. A blu-ray version will be released later this year. “The sets are extremely simple, the voices not powerful but fresh, and there's a spontaneity about most of the show.” BBC Music Magazine, June 2008 *** “The Lacroix-dressed cast in Innsbruck performed as a true ensemble. Johannes Weisser was an energetic Giovanni, Marcos Fink a huge hit as the hapless Leporello. Alexandrina Pendatchanska fully inhabited the role of Elvira and Sunhae Im was a remarkable Zerlina, bringing a touch of wiliness to the character’s vulnerability.” Gramophone Magazine | | | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |

A film by Rhodri Huw Joseph Haydn undertook the composition of The Creation starting at the age of 65, and it took him a year and a half to complete the work. A deeply religious man, he later said, «Never had I been so devout as when I was composing The Creation. Everyday I fell to my knees and prayed to God to give me strength for my work». The concert provides unique opportunity to experience first-hand the beauty of the church Grote Kerk, where the acoustics are said to make music sound magical. Under John Nelson's energetic direction they certainly make their mark here...the Netherlands Radio Choir sing with vigorous attack and a full, firm tone. Orchestral playing - modern instruments used with an awareness of period style - is alert...Camerawork throughout is sensible and unfussy, closely attuned to what is going on in the music.” Gramophone Magazine, March 2012 | | | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days. |

"one of the most brilliant choreographic minds of his generation… He ate, slept and drank art. There was nothing else for him…Uwe Scholz has always made the kind of dances that others were not doing. He didn't let himself be swayed by deconstruction, movement fads or tinkering with the music. He was a symphonic dance maker. One of a kind!"
