Karajan’s rare collaborations with Soviet musicians in the 1960s resulted in exceptional recordings that have become classics – including the ones presented here: “a performance of astonishing intimacy and refinement” from Richter in Tchaikovsky’s First Piano Concerto (October 1962), and “a deft and stylish account” of the Rococo Variations with Rostropovich (September 1968) Citations from R. Osborne, Herbert von Karajan: A Life in Music (London, 1998) Recorded October 1962 (Concerto), September 1968 | | | Usually despatched in 8 - 10 working days. |

“BBC Legends have done no greater service than issuing so much Richter, and this latest disc of Schubert and Schumann, with a magical Debussy encore, shows him at his most intimate with the composers he loved most.” BBC Music Magazine, March 2008 ***** “Schubert composed his A minor Sonata, D784 in 1823, the year in which he learnt he was suffering from an incurable venereal disease. Richter digs deep in this remarkably, bleak and uncompromising reading. The enforced optimism of the final Allegro vivace leaves us with a bitter taste, while the famously treacherous closing octave triplets are dispatched with breathtaking nonchalance.” Gramophone Magazine, December 2007 “The performance is hypnotic, full of the subtlest shades of colour” Donald Manildi, International Record Review | | | (also available to download from $10.50) | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days. Sviatoslav Richter has been the most widely recorded pianist in history and the vast majority of his recordings are of live recitals and concerts. Though much has been written about Richter’s phenomenal technique, talent and artistry, it is the uniqueness of his interpretations that remains his legacy. Indeed, he often did not even play the same piece the same way in successive recitals. Just as Richter sought perfection, DOREMI’s Richter Archives continue to present many of his recordings utilizing state-of-the-art digital audio restoration and re-mastering. | | | Usually despatched in 4 - 5 working days. |
