Yvgeny Sudbin was born in St Petersburg in 1980 and spent the later part of his childhood in Berlin, where he had lessons at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler; he subsequently studied in London at the Purcell School and Royal Academy of Music (where he is now a Visiting Professor), and received coaching from pianists including Stephen Hough, Murray Perahia and Stephen Kovacevich.

His debut CD on BIS (a recital of Scarlatti sonatas) was released in 2005 and praised by The Gramophone Guide as ‘sheer delight from start to finish’; Sudbin remains BIS’s only exclusive solo artist, and his discography on the label includes Tchaikovsky and Medtner’s First Piano Concertos with John Neschling and the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra (which was shortlisted for a Gramophone Award in 2007), the complete Beethoven concertos with Osmo Vãnskã, recitals of Chopin, Haydn and Scriabin, and Rachmaninov’s complete concertos and Paganini Rhapsody. In 2016 Sudbin was nominated for Gramophone’s Artist of the Year Award.
