This symphony was an ambitious project for the young Russian composer. It was his first large
scale orchestral work and he set himself a monumental task. Huge orchestral forces combined with
a final choral fifth movement make this a large scale work by any standards. “Svetlanov's no-holds barred approach suits the emotionalism of Scriabin's neo-Wagnerian Symphony. Stunningly committed playing from the USSR State Symphony Orchestra is let down by the 1960s Soviet recording.” BBC Music Magazine, October 2008 ***** | | | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |

| | | Stravinsky - Rite of Spring & Card Game
These ballet scores, written respectively in 1913 and 1937, have continued to sound fresh and new throughout the years and these are tremendously exciting performances from the USSR Symphony Orchestra and Evgeni Svetlanov. Recorded in 1966 and 1970 they were the first recordings made inside Russia of these pieces following the lifting of the ban on Stravinsky’s music. “Stravinsky was not perhaps natural Svetlanov territory, the but conductor inspires some surprisingly lyrical playing in the slower sections of Rite, whilst Jeu de Cartes is projected with wit and considerable virtuosity.” BBC Music Magazine, December 2008 **** | | | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days. |

| | | Tchaikovsky - Symphony No. 4
The Fourth Symphony was composed between May and December 1877, first performed in
February 1878 and belongs to his ‘black’ cycle of compositions. The Capriccio Italien makes a
good contrast therefore with its abundance of lively musical colours and flavours of Italy inspired by
Tchaikovsky’s time there in 1879. | | | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days. |
