Falk Struckmann was born in Heilbronn in 1958, and spent his early career in Basel and Kiel, followed by a spell at the Staatsoper Berlin; now particularly associated with Wagner, he made his Bayreuth debut in 1993 as Kurwenal, and has gone on to sing roles such as Alberich, Klingsor, Hagen, Daland, Gurnemanz, Hunding and Fafner at many of the world’s major houses.

His discography includes Pizarro on Claudio Abbado’s Gramophone Award-winning recording of Fidelio from the 2010 Lucerne Festival, Telramund on Semyon Bychkov’s Lohengrin (Disc of the Year at the 2010 BBC Music Magazine Awards), Amfortas to Plácido Domingo’s Parsifal under Christian Thielemann, and Hunding and Fafner on Jaap van Zweden’s Ring Cycle with the Hong Kong Philharmonic. Struckmann is a Kammersänger of the Wiener and Berliner Staatsopers.
