The German soprano Christiane Karg was born in Feuchtwangen in 1980 and trained at the Salzburg Mozarteum (where her teachers included the baritone Wolfgang Holzmair) and in Verona; the Salzburg Festival was central to her early career, with engagements there including Bastienne, Madame Silberklang, and Weltgeist Die Schuldigkeit des ersten Gebots. Her operatic repertoire also includes Sophie Der Rosenkavalier, Blanche de la Force Dialogues des Carmélites, Mélisande, and Zdenka Arabella.

Mozart also features prominently in Karg’s discography, which includes Susanna on Yannick Nézet-Séguin’s Nozze di Figaro on Deutsche Grammophon (‘Karg moves effortlessly from the spirited girl…to a tender, womanly account of ‘Deh vieni’’ – Gramophone), the concert-arias ‘Misera, dove son?’ and ‘Ch'io mi scordi di te?’ (as part of the Gramophone Award-nominated Scene! with Arcangelo, which also includes works by Haydn, Beethoven and Mendelssohn), and Pamina on the DVD/Blu-ray of Die Zauberflöte from the 2018 Salzburg Festival. Her solo albums include Parfum (‘sung with a ravishing mix of purity and sensuality’ – Financial Times), two recital-discs with Malcolm Martineau, and Amoretti – a programme of Mozart, Gluck and Gretry with Arcangelo.
