Camerata Bern (Chamber Ensemble)

The chamber ensemble Camerata Bern was formed in Switzerland in 1963 and performs and records a wide range of music from baroque repertoire to contemporary works. Their discography includes albums of oboe concertos by Wassenaer, Albinoni, Alessandro Marcello and Vivaldi, Brahms’s Violin Concerto and String Quintet Op. 111, Hommage à Paul Klee

(featuring music by Veress, Gaudibert and Darbellay), Rossini String Sonatas, and Bach concertos and sinfonias with Heinz Holliger (‘this is music-making which can only ravish in its undimmed personality and artistic ambition’’ – Gramophone).

The group operates without a conductor, but has often been directed by guest soloists such as Thomas Zehetmair, Heinz Holliger, Thomas Füri, Antje Weithaas and latterly Patricia Kopatchinskaja, who became their Artistic Director in 2018 – their first recording together Time and Eternity, was released on Alpha the following autumn.
