Seong-Jin Cho

Seong-Jin Cho (Piano)

Born: 28th May 1994, Seoul. South Korea

Nationality: Korean

Artist's website: https://seongjin-cho.com/

Seong-Jin Cho was born in Seoul in 1994 and came to international prominence in 2015 when he became the first South Korean pianist to win the International Chopin Pino Competition. (Earlier competition successes include prizes at the 2011 International Tchaikovsky competition, the 2009 Hamamatsu Piano Competition, and the 2014 Arthur Rubinstein International Master Competition). A recording of his winning performance was released on Deutsche Grammophon shortly after his victory, prompting BBC Music Magazine to observe that ‘he really is phenomenal: this music seems to flow out of him with such relaxed and elegant perfection’; his discography with the label also includes Debussy’s Images, Suite bergamasque and Children’s Corner (2017), Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 20 with Yannick Nézet-Séguin and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe (2018), and the Ravel Piano Concerto in G with Sir Simon Rattle and the Berliner Philharmoniker on the orchestra’s own label, recorded as part of their Asia Tour in 2018.
