Early Music Ensemble

 Consortium Classicum

In the early sixties the clarinettist Dieter Klöcker founded the Consortium Classicum - a German chambermusic ensemble - which not only cultivated the standard repertory, but also brought back to life rediscovered musical masterworks. The instrumentation of these works include wind instruments only as well as the combination of woodwinds and strings up to a nonette. The members of the Ensemble are all solists, professors from music academies and leaders from first class orchestras, who uphold the Ensemble's concept in a very individual and consistent manner. International appearances in concerts, honorable awards and invitations to famous festivals - including the Salzburg Festival, the Vienna Festival and the Berlin festival etc. - as well as numerous records, radio and TV productions, all go to confirm the extraordinary status of this unique ensemble.

Danzi - Septets & Potpourris

Danzi - Septets & Potpourris

Danzi:

Sextet, Op. 15

Wind Sextet in E flat major, Op. 10

Clarinet Potpourris Nos. 1 & 3 in B flat major

Consortium Classicum, Dieter Klöcker

Franz Danzi exerted a profound influence on the German musical scene at the end of the 18th and beginning of the 19th century.A product of the Mannheim School, he was extensively involved in orchestral advances in Munich, Stuttgart and Karlsruhe. In particular the two Clarinet Potpourris featured on the present CD are performed by Dieter Klöcker and his colleagues with a virtuoso delight in the composer's melodic vein, which ranges from songlike simplicity to elaborate examples of variation form. Danzi reveals himself as a true master in his two Septets which explore a wide expressive range between strings and winds and between dance-like rhythms and lively hunting fanfares. In recording these works the Consortium Classicum render outstanding service to a composer whose works are unjustly neglected but deserve to be far better known.

Wind Sextet in B flat major

Consortium Classicum

These pieces by Ignaz Joseph Pleyel, (1757-1831) and recorded here by the Consortium Classicum, use the original versions of these works found by the ensemble’s founder Dieter Klöcker in autographed scores or contemporary copies in libraries and museums in Germany and Bohemia. Pleyel, the twenty-fourth child in a teacher’s family of thirty-eight children, served as music director in various European cities and during the French Revolution, only barely escaped the guillotine. As soon as the revolutionary turmoil had subsided, however, he returned to Paris, where he opened a music shop and founded a piano company still in existence today.
