| | | Susan Graham - Poèmes De L’amour
Susan Graham (mezzo-soprano) BBC Symphony Orchestra, Yan Pascal Tortelier “The temperature rose with the mezzo-soprano Susan Graham, a superb interpreter of French music who gave one of the most intense accounts imaginable of Ravel's Shéhérazade. Few singers sound quite so involved here … Graham spun seamless phrases with Arabian Nights-like enchantment. Her warm tone was matched by an atmospheric accompaniment from the orchestra to voluptuous effect. In Le livre de Baudelaire, John Adams' arrangements of four Debussy songs, Graham phrased with caressing lightness.” (**** The Times) | | | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |

| | | Berlioz - Symphonie Fantastique
Berliner Philharmoniker, Sir Simon Rattle Having championed Russian and German repertoire in their first three releases of 2008, Sir Simon Rattle and the Berliner Philharmoniker turned to French music for their latest CD, specifically the Symphonie fantastique and La mort de Cléopâtre by Hector Berlioz. The Grammy-Award winning mezzo-soprano Susan Graham is featured in La mort de Cléopâtre. Not long ago, Rattle said of the Berliner Philharmoniker’s sound: "It's like an enormous heat source that comes at you, and you feel as though you can burn in it." The orchestra bring the intensity Rattle describes directly to bear on Berlioz’s work, undaunted by the fire in late May 2008 at Berlin’s Philharmonie that resulted in a last minute change of date and venue to Berlin’s Jesus Christ Kirche for the recording of this album. |

| | | Handel Edition Volume 1
Renée Fleming, Natalie Dessay, Juanita Lascarro, Susan Graham, Kathleen Kuhlmann, Timothy Robinson & Laurent Naouri William Christie ‘Alcina is among the finest of Handels operas. The fine Erato set was recorded live at the Paris Opera.
Christie too is masterly at avoiding any monotony in the long sequence of da capo arias, with the recitative superbly timed and reprises beautifully decorated. It is striking that the star singers here are not just brilliant in tackling elaborate passage-work and ornamentation, but are stylishly scrupulous in avoiding unwanted aspirates. Renée Fleming is in glorious voice as Alcina… Natalie dessay as Alcina’s sister, Morgana, relishes the
challenge…’ Penguin Guide 3 stars, 2008 edition |

| | | England, My EnglandThe Story Of Henry Purcell
Susan Graham, Stephen Varcoe, Lynne Dawson, Nancy Argenta, James Bowman and Michael Chance The Monteverdi Choir and English Baroque Soloists, John Eliot Gardiner. Directed by Tony Palmer Tony Palmer directs this unique film drama about the great English composer Henry Purcell. Very little is known about his life, but the script, by Charles Wood and the late John Osborne, solves this problem by launching a group of actors in the 1960s on a voyage of discovery into the 1660s & late-17th century England, the extraordinary period in which Purcell lived.
The all-star cast includes Michael Ball, Simon Callow, Corin Redgrave, Letitia Dean, John Shrapnel, Robert Stephens and many other well-known names. But it is Purcell’s music which is the driving force of this dramatisation, with a stunning soundtrack performed by a line-up of superb artists such as Susan Graham, Stephen Varcoe, Lynne Dawson, Nancy Argenta, James Bowman and Michael Chance. The Monteverdi Choir and English Baroque Soloists are conducted by John Eliot Gardiner. “Looks and sounds like a masterpiece - wonderful to hear as it is to behold. Overwhelming...it will blow you out of your seat.” The Australian | | | Usually despatched in 3 - 4 working days. |
