 Rudolf Innig studied organ, piano, church music, music education, and musicology in Detmold, Cologne, and Paris. His teachers included Gaston Litaize and Michael Schneider (organ), Hans Martin Theopold and Friedrich Wilhelm Schnurr (piano), and Arno Forchert (musicology). He was the recipient of a fellowship from the "Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes" and a prizewinner in various competitions in the organ field. Concerts, recitals, and radio recordings have taken him to almost all the European countries and to North America, Russia, Japan, and Korea.
His numerous CD recordings with the complete organ works of Johannes Brahms, Felix Mendelssohn, Felix Nowowiejski, Robert Schumann, and Olivier Messiaen have been honored with numerous international recording prizes, including the Prize of the German Record Critics in 1995, the Cannes Classical Award in 1998 together with the Musica Alta Ripa ensemble, and the Echo Classical Prize in 1999. From 1998 until 2005 Rudolf Innig has been at work on a complete recording (12 CDs) of the organ works by Josef Gabriel Rheinberger on historical instruments in Southern Germany and in Switzerland. |

Nowowiejski’s four Concertos for solo organ Op.56 were composed by 1941 while he was in exile in Krakov. No.1 is featured on this CD and is autobiographical in character, reflecting the composer’s difficult circumstances during the war. Rudolf Innig has recorded numerous CDs and has won many prizes including the Echo Classical Prize in 1999. |
