The six concerto gems on the final volume of cpo’s complete recording of Telemann’s wind concertos once again display a great many different ensemble groupings (and often unusual ones), concerto procedures, and forms as well as some broadly dimensioned works.

The six concertos of the seventh and penultimate volume in cpo’s Telemann Wind Concertos series once again enables the listener to experience the broad stylistic spectrum found in these concertos. This volume presents six more concertos from the early short Oboe Concerto in C minor TWV 51: c 2 to the extended Double Concerto for Alto Recorder and Bassoon in F major TWV 52: F 1.

Volume 6 of Cpo’s successful Telemann Wind Concerto series continues with La Stagione Frankfurt under its proven conductor Michael Schneider. Included on this disc is the “Concerto polonaise” performed by the Camerata Köln.

We know next to nothing about Swizz music in the 18th-Century. This release by CPO rectifies this by bringing to the fore the Sinfonia’s of Gaspard Fritz.

It was in Geneva that Fritz served from 1738 to 1745 as the music director of a group of young English nobles. His music is Sturm und Drang, Storm and Stress, full of power and on the same high level as the Mannheim School. A genuine discovery!

Re-released on Capriccio is a Passion Oratorio written by Scarlatti, one of his most mature compositions. Alongside this are two works by Alessandro Stradella; a Lamentation for Wednesday of Holy Week and a work written about the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ, all of which are performed by La Stagione under Michael Schneider.
