Hi-Res Highlights, Hi-Res Downloads - DG

Studio Quality (Hi-Res) Downloads - DGWe're starting to see increasing numbers of classic albums being remastered for Hi-Resolution (Studio Quality) downloads. The Deutsche Grammophon catalogue of course contains some of the greatest recordings ever made, and so it is particuarly pleasing to see them going through their archives and representing them in the best possible sound.

The 13 titles below have just been released, and are available now in 24-bit stereo (at 96kHz) via the Download Options links below.

Wilhelm Kempff, Berliner Philharmoniker, Ferdinand Leitner

'his tone never loses its luminous, singing quality . . . memorable are the qualities of fantasy and musing inwardness in Kempff's playing . . . If you own just one Beethoven concerto disc, this should be it' (Daily Telegraph).

Available Formats: MP3, FLAC, Hi-Res FLAC

Sviatoslav Richter, Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra/Wiener Symphoniker, Herbert von Karajan

'I'd have to have this with me on a desert island. It's one of the best examples of a master getting to grips with a popular work and recreating it anew -- it's sensational' (BBC Music Magazine).

Available Formats: MP3, FLAC, Hi-Res FLAC

Emil Gilels

'The Russian master brings these miniatures to life in performances full of palpable love for the music. These little pieces present perfectly drawn portraits which Gilels responds to with a draughtsman's touch' (Gramophone).

Available Formats: Presto CD, MP3, FLAC, Hi-Res FLAC

Maurizio Pollini

'Pollini makes it virtually impossible to imagine Chopin's Polonaises played with greater clarity, force and resolution. Not for him the odd approximation or slip of the finger: everything is ruthlessly, indeed frighteningly, concentrated and of the essence' (Gramophone).

Available Formats: Presto CD, MP3, FLAC, Hi-Res FLAC

Wiener Philharmoniker, Karl Böhm

'A Pastoral of relaxed gait in which every tempo and every colour seems so right: Sunday in the park with Karl, perhaps' (Gramophone).

Available Formats: MP3, FLAC, Hi-Res FLAC

Berliner Philharmoniker, Herbert von Karajan

'Here are examples of 'The Karajan Effect' at its most positive...Along Karajan's own imaginative deployment of orchestral colour...the Berlin Jesus-Christus Kirche acoustics of these 1964-6 recordings ad their own wonderful coloration and atmosphere' (Gramophone).

Available Formats: MP3, FLAC, Hi-Res FLAC

Berliner Philharmoniker, Karl Böhm

'What the performances tell us, warm and genial, with bold contrasts of dynamic and well-sprung rhythms, is that for the players as well as the conductor this was a voyage of discovery, and their enthusiasm never wanes' (Gramophone).

Available Formats: MP3, FLAC, Hi-Res FLAC

Amadeus Quartet, Emil Gilels, Rainer Zepperitz

'In the 1975 DG recording of the Trout there is a masterly contribution from Gilels, and the Amadeus play with considerable freshness. The approach is very positive, not as sunny and spring-like as in some versions, but rewarding in its seriousness of purposes' (Penguin Guide).

Available Formats: MP3, FLAC, Hi-Res FLAC

Martha Argerich, Berliner Philharmoniker, Claudio Abbado

'[Abbado's collaborations with Argerich] were always special, and this early recording of two of Argerich's specialities captures their chemistry perfectly' (The Guardian).

Available Formats: MP3, FLAC, Hi-Res FLAC

Mstislav Rostropovich, Berliner Philharmoniker, Herbert von Karajan

'Two great musicians performing with complete sympathy for each other: Rostropovich on top form and Karajan an attentive partner' (Gramophone).

Available Formats: MP3, FLAC, Hi-Res FLAC

Emil Gilels, Berliner Philharmoniker, Eugen Jochum

'Titanic performances that underline the structural integrity of these massive works, but also alive to their poetic heart' (Gramophone).
