Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach (1714-88)

Johann Sebastian's third son (but fifth child) who was court musician to Frederick the Great.

A prolific composer for the keyboard, he wrote some fifty keyboard concertos. His use of theamatic treatment in different keys was significant in the development of the sonata form. Mozart held him high esteem.
