Johann Christian Bach (1735-82)

The youngest of Johann Sebastian's twenty children. He is often referred to as the 'English Bach' for he settled in London and was music master to George III's family. He Is also known from the handsome portrait of him by his friend Gainsborough

He was a prolific composer leaving some ninety symphonies, eleven operas and a great many works for the piano, an instrument which he helped to pioneer.
