| | | Horszowski - MiecioLetters and postcards of Janina Roza Horszowska 1900-1904
Book + CD Edited by: Bice Horszowski Costa Following on from Bice Horszowski Costa’s previous book Remembrances of Mieczyslaw Horszowski, which drew a comprehensive picture of the long and intense life of the great pianist, Dynamic are pleased to be able to present another rare book titled Letters and postcards of Janina Roza Horszowska. The collection of picture postcards has been retrieved after decades of being hidden away in a garage in Nice. The letters and postcards are from Miecio’s mother Janina which she sent home to her husband almost daily between 1900 and 1904. There are over 130 postcards which provide a striking overview of the beginning of the last century and a unique glance at the musical development of a child-prodigy from a mother’s perspective. The book includes a CD featuring recordings of some of the works mentioned in the letters and postcards. The recordings have never been recorded on CD before. Also included are a small biographical glossary, an updated discography, and bibliography. | | | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days. |

| | | Beethoven - The Piano Sonatas (Volume 7)
The release of the last two volumes (7 & 8) of Schiff’s complete Beethoven Sonatas this autumn finally offers the opportunity to view, and hear, the pianist’s approach to this unique repertoire segment in total. Volume 7, recorded once again live at Tonhalle Zurich, includes the first three of the so-called 'late' sonatas which were written between 1814 and 1822. A highlight in any Beethoven cycle is the 45-minute long 'Hammerklavier' sonata which Schiff - especially with regard to the fast tempo markings by Beethoven - calls "probably the hardest work in the whole repertoire of the piano - technically, structurally, atmospherically, metaphysically." Reviewers in the UK, Germany and Switzerland expressed their unanimous admiration after Schiff’s recitals with this programme in May 2006, praising the pianist’s structural awareness, his individual approach to musical characters, and outstanding sonic control. A personal and charismatic, yet extremely thorough reading of the musical texts offering many revealing new insights. Recorded on a Bösendorfer and a Steinway to match the sonatas' different characters. “Even in the hairiest passages of the Hammerklavier Sonata Op 106, Schiff's poise never deserts him, while the textural clarity, especially of the inner lines, is always a delight.” The Guardian, 31st October 2008 ***** | | | Usually despatched in 4 - 5 working days. |
