With the short but bright and powerful Rhapsody, composed in 1894, August de Boeck (1865- 1937) earned himself a place as one of the leading Belgian composers of the first half of the 20th century. More than 40 years later he wrote his tranquil Nocturne ending a career that had seen him compose operas, chamber music and his masterpiece, a beautifully lyrical and romantic violin concerto, featured on this release.
