| | | Mieczyslaw Horszowski
Andras Schiff said of Horszowski’s Chopin: ‘It’s as though he had written the music himself. It’s unbelievably unpredictable, and yet it’s completely natural, and comes from within the composition. I learned a great deal about rubato from Horszowski, because he uses it in a way that’s like Chopin must have done: he never loses the pulse, and yet it’s played with great freedom.’ Recorded June 4th 1991. “Schumann's Arabeske is played with a tender simplicity that entrances. Of the Chopin group, the B major Nocturne is an outstanding example of Horszowski's long-breathed cantabile…” Gramophone Magazine, August 2008 “…in Schumann's Träumerei - the perfect encore - Horszowski demonstrates why he was so revered by Murray Perahia and András Schiff.” BBC Music Magazine, Proms 2008 **** | | | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |

| | | Great Pianists - Moiseiwitsch 12Chopin Recordings Volume 2 (1938-1952)
This second volume of Moiseiwitsch’s Chopin recordings focuses on the complete Préludes, Op. 28, which the great pianist had attempted to record, unsuccessfully, with the acoustic process, and the Four Ballades. The recording of the complete Préludes is one of the most satisfactory on disc, as Moiseiwitsch captures perfectly the mood of each of these miniature masterpieces. The slower preludes in particular show Moiseiwitsch’s understanding of musical phrasing linked to harmonic progressions. The recording of the Ballade No. 4, his only 78rpm recording of the work, derives from a test pressing. All tracks were recorded in Studio 3, Abbey Road, London “Taken from 78s, the restored sound captures Moiseiwitsch's wonderful light and shade, alchemical pedalling, searching poetry, and vast technique. The 24 Preludes are exceptional.” BBC Music Magazine, October 2008 ***** | | | (also available to download from $9.00) | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |

| | | Chopin - Piano Works
“…her playing is now enriched immeasurably by a poetic depth and subtle expressive imagination.” BBC Music Magazine, August 2008 **** “‘Fliter is very much her own person, with essential sparks of individual imagination that show a fertile mind as well as a phenomenal technique at work … In the second half came a Chopin group that was simply spellbinding. The music seemed to flow from her with an utterly natural lyrical impulse, graced with power, luminous delicacy and a spectrum of tonal colouring that combined to mark her out as one of the most instinctive and eloquent Chopin interpreters playing today” The Telegraph | | | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |

| | | Chopin - Preludes
'I like to play the cycle of Preludes without interruption, with the same tension, a certain underlying fear even in the most serene preludes.' Two years after his CD devoted to the Waltzes, Alexandre Tharaud returns to Chopin, the composer he has played most often and who has never failed to move him deeply. In addition to the Preludes in A flat and Op.45 and the Trois nouvelles études, he has provided the cycle with a more recent echo in music by Federico Mompou. In their personality, their careers, their exclusive relationship with the piano, their attention to sonority, and their inward melody, the two composers have much in common. “Conceiving the 24 Preludes as an uninterrupted whole, and complementing them with some all-too-rare Mompou miniatures, Alexandre Tharaud has recorded a breathtaking disc.” BBC Music Magazine, August 2008 ***** | | | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |
