Pierre Laurent Aimard Berlin Philharmonic, The Schönberg and Asko Ensembles, Reinbert de Leeuw All five volumes of the Ligeti Project brought together for the first
time, at an excellent price. Notes on all five volumes written by
Ligeti himself. ‘In the year of his 80th birthday, these are glorious accounts of great 20th-century works… Ligeti continues to
explore and colonise new ground voraciously… if Ligeti’s music has a trademark, it is unpredictability…He
remains one of the severest critics of contemporary music, as well as one of its greatest composers’

| | | Joanna MacGregor - Play
Joanna MacGregor's 2002 Mercury Nominated Play is a summing-up of her work in the last ten years: it ranges from the beauty and tranquillity of Elizabethan composers William Byrd and John Dowland through to funky collaborations with tabla genius Talvin Singh and South African jazz pianist Moses Molelekwa; from an intensely dramatic, filmic score written by the young Belgrade composer Ivana Ognjanovic to Nancarrow's wild boogie-woogie study no 11. Also included are the meditative Incarnation II by Japanese composer Somei Satoh and one of Piazzolla's most famous tangos, Libertango. | | | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |

| | | Ligeti - Lux AeternaWorld Premiere Recording
Cappella Amsterdam, Daniel Reuss Both Ligeti and Heppener belong to the generation born in the 1920s which formed the basis for the post-war avant-garde. Lux Aeterna, used by Stanley Kubrick in his film 2001: A Space Odyssey, marked the installation of a new musical language. The later Sonata for solo viola simultaneously evokes the polyphony of the 14th century and certain varieties of ethnic music. Im Gestein, a cycle of lieder to poems by Paul Celan which won Heppener the Matthijs Vermeulen Prize in 1993, is here recorded for the first time. In 1990, Daniel Reuss, lately of the RIAS Kammerchor, and soon to take up the baton with the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir, became director of Cappella Amsterdam, which he turned into the full-time professional ensemble that is now one of the most sought-after in the Netherlands. His previous recording of works by Robert Heppener with the Nederlands Kammerchor received an Edison Award. Future recordings with Capella Amsterdam will include a disc of Sweelinck for harmonia mundi. |

| | | Works For Cello And Piano
Nicolas Altstaedt (cello) & Francesco Piemonsti (piano) “This uncommonly well-planned and well-recorded recital may have arisen from a competition winner (of the 2005
Deutscher Musikwettbewerb) wishing to display the range of his abilities, but it offers a far more satisfying
experience than most such showcases…..Altstaedt is already much more than promising, and anyone interested in a freshly uninhibited approach to Bach should hear him. The Strad, December 2007 – The Strad Selection | | | Usually despatched in 3 - 4 working days. |
