“Rampe’s historically informed approach, his complementary embellishments in the style of the period and improvised ornamentations in the repetitions, and the employment of instruments from Mozart’s time lend this recording its special appeal – and the overall sound impression is also convincing“ (Pforzheimer Zeitung). | | | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days. |

| | | Royal Concerts Volume 3: Alfredo Kraus Opera Recital
Recorded in concert in Madrid in 1984, Alfredo Krauss sings a predominately opera focused recital of arias from Massent’s “Manon” & “Werther”, Gounod’s “Romeo et Juliette” and Donizetti’s “Lucia di Lammermoor” & “La Favorite”. Krauss is still considered to be one of the finest vocal technicians ever. His superb abilities enabled him to sing the bel-canto repertoire, for which he was so justifiably famous, well into his 70’s. This DVD release is a must for all fans of this great tenor and anyone interested in great singing! | | | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days. |

| | | Mozart & Shostakovich - Violin ConcertosLive Recording 1956
The Leningrad Philharmonic gave two concerts under its principal conductor, Evgeny Mravinsky at the Vienna Festival in 1956, but it was the soloist who received more attention than either Mravinsky himself or his orchestra. David Oistrakh, one of the most distinguished instrumentalists of his generation, not only as a concert violinist but also as a chamber musician, was returning as one of the world's leading virtuosos, his appearances followed by public and press alike, unanimous in their acclaim. His performance of Mozart's A major concerto was as brilliant and as perfectly shaped as his playing of Shostakovich's First, a work dedicated to him, his performance of the cadenza providing a dazzling transition to the final movement, which caused a sensation wherever he played it. Particularly noteworthy about this Vienna performance is the fact that it reunites the forces involved in the world première in 1955, namely, Oistrakh and the Leningrad Philharmonic under Mravinsky. | | | Usually despatched in 3 - 4 working days. |

| | | Mozart - Piano Trios Volume 2Late Piano Trios
Composed in 1788 at the peak of his creative powers, though at a time of both artistic success and looming personal crisis, Mozart’s last three piano trios are masterpieces whose prevailing character of congenial gaiety is heightened by poignant undercurrents of lyrical melancholy. The rarely heard Piano Trio K. 442 was completed by the composer’s friend, Maximilian Stadler. Volume 1 (8570518) also features the acclaimed young Kungsbacka Piano Trio, winners of the 3rd Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition and Associate Ensemble at London’s Guildhall School of Music & Drama. “Is there a better Trio ensemble in Western Europe?” The Strad on the Kungsbacka Piano Trio “The Kungsbacka Piano Trio… are musicians of enlightened individual and collective probity who incorporate stylistic niceties into interpretations that are all the more authentic for being authentically felt, and absorbingly communicated.” Gramophone Magazine, May 2009 “Texture plays such an important part in Mozart's late trios and the Kungsbacka Trio clearly relish this aspect, notably in the buoyant finale of the G major Trio; the recording is a little on the hard side.” BBC Music Magazine, September 2009 **** | | | (also available to download from $6.00) | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days. "On wings of song" - Heine's words and Mendelssohn's immortal melody, sung here by the inimitable Rita Streich, perfectly encapsulate the spirit of this collection. Six of the greatest voices of the last half-century perform a range of familiar music: romantic Wagner from Gré Brouwenstijn and collectors' items such as Egk's four Italian songs from the matchless Irmgard Seefried. These were the commanding voices of their day, from Christa Ludwig's warm mezzo, to Gundula Janowitz's crystalline soprano and the dramatic brilliance of Galina Vishnevskaya, all captured in their prime. “With Vishnevskaya the odd-Russian-out, these 1960s films preserve the art of female singers mostly in the German Lied repertoire. Visual and sonic quality is variable, platform manners quaint, but the vocalism regularly excellent.” BBC Music Magazine, July 2009 **** | | | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days. |
