This month is an excellent one for Björling fans. This collection is a treasury of rare performances from the US and Sweden and includes previously unreleased material. There is commentary and interviews, as well as Art and popular songs, Arias and duets and there are many guest artists such as Licia Albanese, Anna Lisa Björling and Renata Tebaldi. “Björling recorded [Lensky's aria] many times but never, I think, so poignantly as here. As a prologue to this year's centenary celebrations the album is a worthy offering and this track an especially moving example of the great tenor's art at its best.” Gramophone Magazine, March 2011 | | | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days. |

Directed & Set Design by Franco Zeffirelli This DVD combines a number of operatic highlights: Puccini’s Madama Butterfly - the composer’s self-proclaimed favourite work and certainly one of the most beloved operas in the repertoire - is brought to life at the world famous Arena di Verona. This opulent production, directed by Franco Zeffirelli, is sung by a cast of excellent singer-actors and conducted by long-established Arena di Verona conductor Daniel Oren with all the splendour that a Puccini opera demands. The opera is staged in front of the imposing Roman backdrop of the “Arena di Verona” and directed by respected film and opera director Franco Zeffirelli. Fiorenza Cedolins is a sought after Butterfly singer and her Pinkerton is played by the renowned tenor Marcello Giordani. The performance is lead by Daniel Oren who has worked with the opera festival for more than two decades. The sum of all this is a gloriously sung musical experience. | | | Recorded live at The Amsterdam Music Theatre, Nov & Dec 2009
Eva-Maria Westbroek (Minnie), Lucio Gallo (Jack Rance), Zoran Todorovich (Dick Johnson), Roman Sadnik (Nick), Diogenes Randes (Ashby), Stephen Gadd (Sonora), Tijl Faveyts (Billy Jackrabbit), Ellen Rabiner (Wowkle), André Morsch (Jake Wallace) & Roger Smeets (José Castro) Chorus of De Nederlandse Opera & Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, Carlo Rizzi (conductor) & Nikolaus Lehnhoff (director) Nikolaus Lehnhoff’s Hollywood-style production updates this Wild West story to the capitalist culture of Wall Street, perfectly reflecting Puccini’s innovatory spirit. In a new angle on the age-old love triangle theme, corrupt Sheriff Jack Rance (Lucio Gallo) and charismatic criminal Dick Johnson (Zoran Todorovich) vie for the love of glamorous blonde and devout Christian Minnie (Eva-Maria Westbroek), finding her way in a man’s world. Carlo Rizzi’s idiomatic conducting draws excellent singing from the large cast and fine playing from The Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra. She boasts the wonderfully meaty instrument required for Minnie (especially in the all-important middle voice), plus the right wholesome, strawberry-blonde appearance...This endearing portrayal will surely take its place in the great line of sopranos who have excelled as Minnie...Carlo Rizzi leads a highly passionate reading” International Record Review, December 2010 | | | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days. |

| | | Dreamstranscriptions by Craig Leon
The winner of numerous international awards as a producer of both pop and classical recordings, Craig Leon also leads a career as a composer. His album for Joshua Bell of transcriptions for violin and orchestra was unanimously acclaimed everywhere, which prompted him quite naturally to turn to the cello after meeting Ophélie Gaillard when she was giving a concert at the Wigmore Hall. He has created new arrangements for her, reviving the long standing tradition of cellists, from Gregor Piatigorsky to Pablo Casals who played popular transcriptions of great works on their instruments. Ophélie is accompanied by the RPO, recorded at Abbey Road studios and supported by CIC who loaned her magnificent Gofriller cello. “the rich tones of Ophélie Gaillard’s 1737 Gofriller cello complement her warm lyrical style and add colour to a keen awareness of instrumental vocalisation.” The Strad, June 2010 | | | This item is currently out of stock at the UK distributor.
