Jed Wentz (transverse flule) Musica ad Rhenum Telemann’s sunny character and humorous disposition shine through in his music. During his life time he was very successful, artistically
and commercially. One of the highlights of his later years had been his Tafelmusik, which combines styles from several countries. So when publishing his Quartets in Paris some years later expectations were high. And Telemann’s main competitor was the
composer himself. He managed to gather even more subscribers for this latest venture than previously for the Tafelmusik. And yes, the
Quartets did prove more than worthy of all the preceding excitement. Telemann’s most entertaining music is performed here by Jed Wentz
on the flauto traverso (transverse flute) and members of Musica ad Rhenum. They consciously deviated from the by now established
tempos. Most often the music is played faster. In the booklet Jed Wentz convincingly explains the reason why. |

| | | Telemann & Bach - Concertos for Oboe d’amore
Thomas Stacy (oboe d’amore) Toronto Chamber Orchestra, Kevin Mallon “Many listeners will recognize the distinctive sound of the oboe d’amore from having heard it in Bach’s B Minor Mass, St Matthew Passion, where it is used in pairs, or in Ravel’s Bolero. Hearing this instrument solo in these beautiful concerti may be a new experience for some. Telemann and Bach used the instrument brilliantly, requiring agile virtuosity in the fast movements and in the long lines of the heart-tugging slow movements, they made splendid show of the oboe d’amore’s uniquely plaintive timbre.” Thomas Stacy “Here we have the Toronto Camerata, under its founder-conductor Kevin Mallon, on world-class form, playing with an alertness, precision, sensitivity and stylistic awareness that would put many more celebrated bands to shame… highly recommended” The Strad on a previous Naxos recording. |

Although he plays a modern violin, Kremer has always included Baroque music in his repertoire and it is fitting therefore that Bach, Biber and Telemann are featured in this set. Music from the 20th-century, such as Schöenberg, Webern and Stockhausen, is also prominently represented as are the stalwarts of the violin repertory, Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert. Predictably, Russian composers form a major part of this offering, from the well known (Tchaikovsky and Prokofiev) to the more obtuse (Karayev and Salmanov). | | | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |
