This Telemann production was released in 1989. Nowadays you can only imagine Jacobs as the director of the ensemble, but in this recording, René Jacobs is the countertenor, being accompanied by the members of the Akademie für Alte Musik in a chamber music arrangement – without director. The cooperation between René Jacobs and the Berlin-based orchestra, which led to a number of award-winning releases, began with this Telemann recording. Since then, both have been awarded with the Telemann prize of the city of Magdeburg - the Akademie für Alte Musik in 2006; René Jacobs in 2008. This collection of cantatas sung by René Jacobs includes a printed libretto. | | | (also available to download from $10.50) | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days. (Available now to download.) |

| | | Telemann - Passion Cantatas
Klaus Mertens (bass-baritone) Accademia Daniel, Shalev Ad-El This seasonal release from CPO features Telemann’s little known yet dramatically fulfilling Passion Cantatas. Klaus Mertens takes the starring role in this disc and together with the Accademia Daniel under Shalev Ad-El uniquely and vividly conveys the drama of the Passion story. “The present programme of works for Passiontide finds Mertens on eloquent form, responding to Telemann's often vivid word-painting with appropriately measured declamation. Nowhere, perhaps, is he heard to better advantage than in the beautifully sustained accompagnato which opens the cantata Der am Ölberg zagende Jesus (Jesus in Agony on the Mount of Olives). Accademia Daniel under Shalev Ad-El provide Mertens with admirable support throughout.” BBC Music Magazine, July 2009 ***** | | | (also available to download from $10.50) | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days. | | | Telemann: Quatuors Parisiens Volume 1
John Holloway (violin), Linde Brunmayr (transverse flute), Lorenz Duftschmid (viola da gamba), Ulrike Becker (violoncello) & Lars-Ulrik Mortensen (harpsichord) Telemann wrote the twelve Paris Quartets whilst living in the eponymous city in the Winter of 1737-38. These quartets represent the very best of Telemann’s chamber music: refined, richly varied and full of imagination. CPO's new recording with Baroque greats such as John Holloway and Lars Ulrik Mortensen will set new standards of performance in these charming works. | | | (also available to download from $10.50) | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days. Augustin Hadelich (violin) Highly characterful and unfailingly inventive, Telemann’s Twelve Fantasies for Solo Violin were written with an eye to the amateur or student market. They explore the possibilities of solo violin writing with suggestions of polyphony and modest elements of double and triple stopping, while making use of instrumental forms derived from the sonata or the suite, often with an overt debt to Corelli and his Italian successors. | | | (also available to download from $5.75) | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days.
