Cappella Coloniensis, Hans-Martin Linde This CD brings together repertoire that is not often performed. The Cappella Coloniensis made this recording in the 80s staying true to historical performance practice, defining the large symphonic sound by the seek, clear sound from original instruments. At least in the case of Joseph Martin Kraus there has been a reappraisal: this Mozart contemporary is regarded today as a significant composer with his own, idiosyncratic musical language. Nevertheless the Cappella Coloniensis aimed to fill a gap with this disc, taking the listener on a journey to discover the symphonies that were composed and played during the time of Haydn and Mozart. |

| | | Vanhal - Symphonies, Vol 4
Toronto Chamber Orchestra, Kevin Mallon The symphonies of Johann Baptist Vanhal are among the most important works of the classical period. Bold and imaginative, powerful and lyrical. Vanhal’s symphonies are only now beginning to win wider recognition as the masterpieces they are. This recording features his early and highly prophetic Symphony in E minor as well as one of his later works, the brilliantly-scored Symphony in C (Bryan C17) which Haydn is known to have admired. | | | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |

| | | Vanhal: Symphonies, Vol. 2
City of London Sinfonia, Andrew Watkinson "The Vanhal symphonies are technically exceptional and capable of going toe-to-toe with the middle-period symphonies of Haydn and even several of Mozart's. Vanhal's thematic material is often memorable, and his development sections well worked through...
The City of London Sinfonia is an exceptional advocate for this rare literature. The small modern-instrument orchestra plays poise and panache, production well-paced and architecturally sound readings...they also allow the listener to immerse himself in the undeniable and sometimes enviable glories of Vanhal's art."

Each setting can be regarded as a musical highlight from the particular service in which it occurs. Musically speaking, Grechaninov regarded Passion Week as “exhausting all the technical means which the unaccompanied chorus can render.” It takes the listener through a broad range of emotional and spiritual experience, and enlarges both the musical forms and the choral forces in terms of range and complexity of texture.
