Gramophone Choices,
Gramophone Editor's Choices - June 2023
Top honours in this month's issue go to Vox Luminis and Lionel Meunier for their 'meticulously plotted' German Baroque Requiem on Ricercar, which sees the Belgian early music ensemble exploring seventeenth- and eighteenth-century treatments of some of the texts which Brahms would later set in Ein Deutsches Requiem. Including music by Hermann Schein, Andreas Hammerschmidt, Christian Geist and Andreas Scharmann, the programme was praised by reviewer David Vickers for the 'honeyed melancholy' and 'polished precision' on display - look out for our podcast with Lionel about the project later this month...
