Presto Music Classical Podcast, Episode 43: Sound the trombone! Onyx Brass at 30 with Amos Miller

2023 saw the thirtieth birthday of British brass quintet Onyx Brass - renowned for their unfailing commitment to move beyond the arrangements and transcriptions that form the bread and butter for many brass quintets, and instead to seek out new repertoire and new commissions for their ensemble. In June their album The sun is free to flow with the sea was released on NMC Records, featuring works composed for Onyx Brass by Roxanna Panufnik, Yshani Perinpanayagam, Errollyn Wallen and more.

Founder member Amos Miller (trombone) shared some of his thoughts on the group's first three decades - from its initial formation, through early years of fighting uphill against an establishment skeptical of the very idea of brass chamber music, to unpacking the stories behind some of the works featured on their latest album.
