Daniel Brenna

Daniel Brenna (Tenor)

Born: 20th August 1970, Eau Claire, Wisconsin

Nationality: American

The American heldentenor Daniel Brenna was born in Wisconsin in 1970 and studied at the Universities of Wisconsin and Boston, coming to international prominence in 2011 following his debut as Schoenberg’s Aron in Zurich; now in significant demand for Wagner (particularly Siegfried and Tannhäuser), his repertoire also includes Eisenstein in Die Fledermaus, The Drum Major in Wozzeck, Herodes in Salome and Aegisth in Elektra.

Brenna’s discography includes Alwa in the Grammy-nominated DVD of Berg’s Lulu from the Metropolitan Opera, Desportes in Bernd Alois Zimmermann’s Die Soldaten, and Siegfried in Götterdämmerung on Japp van Zweden’s Ring Cycle with the Hong Kong Philharmonic, which prompted Gramophoen to remark that ‘Brenna’s voice certainly records comfortably and he is always fully in touch with the dramatic requirements’.
