Reinhold Friedrich is one of the leading trumpet soloists of our times. He has now teamed up with the Gottingen Symphony Orchestra for performances of Russian trumpet concertos. Arutiunian’s box-office hit is of course included for comparison, but on this brand-new SACD previously uncharted territory is also waiting for discovery. The Romantic Concerto by Ilya Shakhov proves to be a choice gem and here celebrates a recording premiere full of feeling and suspense.
