Polish-American pianist Artur Rubinstein (1887-1982) received international acclaim for his performances of the music written by a variety of composers and many regard him as the greatest Chopin interpreter of his time. He was described by The New York Times as one of the greatest pianists of the twentieth century and his career lasted for eight decades. Presented on this release is the complete original LP (RCA Victor LSC2634) containing Rubinstein’s 1961 stereo recordings of two of Mozart’s better known piano concertos, both made with the RCA Victor Symphony Orchestra conducted by Alfred Wallenstein. To the legendary performances present on the original album, is added a recording of César Franck’s Variations symphoniques for Piano and Orchestra, recorded by Rubinstein, again with Wallenstein, in 1958.
