In 2008 cpo released the premiere work by Graz native Siegmund von Hausegger - his powerful Natursymphonie. klassik.com wrote; “How the Natursymphonie by Hausegger unfolds, so rich in instrumental colour and with unprecedented sound!” This new production features more impressive works by Hausegger, and displays the same high quality as the first release. The featured works span practically the entire career of this great symphonic composer – from the successful Dionysische Phantasie of his youth to the later Aufklänge (1917), an absolutely brilliant variation on the children’s song Schlaf, Kindchen, schlaf. His compact symphonic poem, Wieland der Schmid, was inspired by Wagner’s dramatic fragment of the same name. In the near future a continuation is planned with the composer’s greatest success: Barbarossa of 1899. There is still a rich supply of mighty symphonic music to be discovered by a composer, who like Felix Weingartner or Wilhelm Furtwängler, earned much greater fame as a conductor.
