Curiosity, fearlessness and versatility carry Australian flautist Lina Andonovska around the globe, and her incandescent debut on Diatribe Records demonstrates her unique voice in the new flute world. This electric release is a snapshot of the current avant-garde in contemporary composition in Ireland, featuring five new works commissioned and dedicated to Andonovska including Donnacha Dennehy's 'Bridget' based on repetition, accumulation and manipulation of layering inherent in the works of British visual artist Bridget Riley; Nick Roth's ' A Loved A Long?? and ?'Bata', an interpretation of the final six hundred and eight words of James Joyce's 'Finnegans Wake' and an examination of Roland Barthes vs. UK Junglism; Barry O'Halpin's 'Hox' exploring the bio-acoustics of the wasp and a very personal work from leading Irish composer Judith Ring - 'Breath of Fresh Air'. A name that you?ll discover on both the pages of Rolling Stone and the Australian Chamber Orchestra roster, Lina has not only cultivated creative partnerships with leading composers including Louis Andriessen, Donnacha Dennehy, Brett Dean and Bryce Dessner (The National), but also deep community ties from Timor-Leste to Tokyo's incubator Wonder Site. Her debut at the Melbourne International Arts Festival was hailed as ??redefining the art of going solo?(****The Age), and her 'wunderkind' performance of Dean's flute concertino was noted by Drowned in Sound. In 2020 she is working alongside Ensemble Modern through a scholarship placement as part of the International Ensemble Modern Academy.
