Chorus and Orchestra of the Hungarian Radio, Lazlo Kovacs Ferenc Erkel (1810-1893) was a Hungarian composer and is today regarded as the father of Hungarian grand opera. His opera ‘King Stephen’ was first performed in 1885 and is based on the life of Stephen, later St Stephen, first King of Hungary.
