| | | Liszt: Années de pèlerinage
“I know of no better way of convincing sceptics (and some still remain) than listening to Brendel´s seemingly effortless performances of these astonishing pieces” (Music and Musicians). “In the imposing setting of the Middle Temple Brendel eloquently introduces each of these 16 of Liszt's most striking and original piano works, and then plays them with an even greater sense of their poetry and colour.” BBC Music Magazine, July 2006 ***** | | | Usually despatched in 8 - 10 working days. |

Directed by Frank Scheffer and Andy Sommer Subtitles: English/French/German/Spanish/Dutch/Japanese “Boulez was born for DVD. The Tai Chi-meets Bruce Lee choreography of his conducting is a visual feast in itself, while the 'extras' facility allows space for Boulez's famously pellucid discussions of his inscrutable compositional matrices.” Gramophone Magazine, May 2006 | | | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days. |

| | | ¡Guitarra! - The Guitar in SpainEight half-hour films, tracing the evolution of the Spanish guitar over five centuries
Julian Bream is celebrated as one of the world’s leading classical guitarists. He is featured in this series of 8 half-hour films, shot entirely on location in Spain, playing some of the finest pieces in the repertoire of the Spanish guitar. The programmes trace the evolution of the Spanish guitar over five centuries, from 1500 to the present day. Together, its music and history paint a rich portrait of Spain and her people. Julian Bream plays in some of Spain’s most magnificent old buildings and beautiful landscapes, evoking through his performances the culture, history and society that has given birth to the music. Seville, Toledo, Madrid, Aranjuez, Barcelona, Granada, Ronda, Cordoba, the Pyrenees – these and other locations form a vivid backdrop to Bream’s playing. The music demonstrates the unique, uninterrupted traditions of the genre over 500 years and includes, among others, compositions by Albéniz, Granados, de Falla, Tarrega and Rodrigo. For this series, Julian Bream asked the outstanding Spanish guitar-maker, his friend and colleague José Romanillos to make him a vihuela and a Baroque Spanish guitar. In Episode 4, he is joined by another master exponent, Paco Peña, who plays Flamenco guitar and talks with Bream about its origins and meaning. Recording Date: 1985

“Julian Bream… plays a repertoire from Mudara to Ohana with typical intensity and hard-won serenity. Around him are landscapes and street scenes, paintings and cafés, and the guitar in most of its manifestations from courtly vihuela to busked electric blues. Paco Peña, mercifully tieless, features in a lively discussion of flamenco and fingernails, but the illumination of the wider world is often cast obliquely, with the interaction of poems and pictures particularly telling as the violent 20th century takes shape.” BBC Music Magazine, May 2006 **** | | | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days. |

“But this recital of Chopin is intensely inspired from first note to last… Michelangeli… begins with the largest work in the programme, the Funeral March Sonata, played with precision but extremely flexible tempos, and a vast dynamic range. It is all great, but the way Michelangeli plays the whirlwind last movement is stunning. Despite his undemonstrativeness, seeing him adds to the intensity of the experience. Only his hands move, with extraordinary seeming individual wills in each of his fingers.” BBC Music Magazine, March 2006 ***** BBC Music Magazine
