Suppe: Il Ritorno del Marinaio

Suppe: Il Ritorno del Marinaio

Ljubomir Puskaric (baritone), Mariukka Tepponen (soprano), Giorgio Surian (bass), Alias Farasin (tenor), Marco Fortunato (tenor)

Rijeka Opera Symphony Orchestra, Adriano Martinolli D'Arcy

Yes, there is such a thing: an opera, not an operetta, by Franz von Suppé, through-composed and Italian in its dramatic character which is hardly surprising from a man who was Donizettis distant nephew! Des Matrosen Heimkehr was a commissioned work for the Hamburg Opera. This recording represents a successful pioneering effort that once again showcases a forgotten work from a neglected genre the opera oeuvre of Franz von Suppé.

Glass, L:

Symphony No. 5 in C Op. 57 'Sinfonia Swastica'

Fantasy, Op. 47

Marianna Shirinyan (piano)

Staatsorchester Rheinische Philharmonie, Daniel Raiskin

The theosophical worldview, to which Louis Glass increasingly felt drawn, found expression in only a very few of his compositions. Of all the works influenced by theosophy, the fifth symphony from 1919-20 is the one based on the most extensive overall idea. His Fantasia for Piano and Orchestra above all adheres to the works introspective motto alluding to theosophy: From the spirits eternal canopy, tones calling man sound down. And man turns away from the world and remains alone in order to find peace

Siegmund von Hausegger: Barbarossa & Drei Hymnen An Die Nacht

Siegmund von Hausegger: Barbarossa & Drei Hymnen An Die Nacht

Hausegger:

Barbarossa

Drei Hymnen An Die Nacht

Hans Christoph Begemann (bass-baritone)

cpo's Hausegger series continues with more powerful symphonic music, and the greatest success of the composers lifetime - his Barbarossa of 1899. His second magnificent tone poem forms a three-movement symphony; this lavish late romantic work clearly exhibits influences from Wagner and above all from Bruckner. Those who followed Hauseggers career regarded his Hymns to the Night, based on Gottfried Keller and composed immediately after Barbarossa as his best contribution to the genre of the orchestral song.

Bill Murray (vocals/narration), Jan Vogler (cello)

Through a chance meeting on a flight from Berlin to New York, actor Bill Murray and cellist Jan Vogler became fast friends, curious about each others’ artistic worlds and interests. The result of their collaboration is New Worlds, an unexpected and enchanting exploration of the intersection of music and literature. Both the recording and live events feature songs paired with literary readings brought to life with classical music.

New Worlds showcases American values in literature and music, and the bridges artists have built between America and Europe. Twain, Hemingway, Whitman, Cooper, Bernstein, Bach, Piazzolla, Mancini, Gershwin and Foster are some of the writers and composers represented on New Worlds – masters whose distinct voices have influenced generations in America and beyond.

The ensemble performing New Worlds consists of Bill Murray (vocals and narration), Jan Vogler (cello), Mira Wang (violin) and Vanessa Perez (piano) – four musicians whose origins span four different continents.

New Worlds will have its world premiere on June 4 at the Dresden Music Festival, Germany, with its U.S. premiere to follow on July 20 at the Festival Napa Valley, California.

A world tour is confirmed for the autumn 2017 and into 2018 (itinerary below), tying in with the album release on Decca Gold this September, marking Mr. Murray’s first official complete recorded album on a classical music label!

This endeavour between great music and great literature brings together an unexpected collective of creative forces, each at the top of their fields. Jan Vogler’s distinguished career has pushed the boundaries of classical music. He is known for his strong curatorial approach to his music making, combining history, classical tradition and a contemporary style of performance. Bill Murray, in his own right, has forged the most independent career in Hollywood, weaving comedy and depth 8.69into some of the most memorable roles in cinema.

Sir Karl Jenkins presents Symphonic Adiemus, the new album, of epic proportions. Brand new recordings of the greatest moments from the Adiemus series features an extended orchestra of over 100, including over 20 layers of classical and ethnic percussion, and a choir of 80. With judicious use of multi-tracking, there are sometimes over 400 participants heard at any one time.

Since 1995, when Adiemus first appeared with its unique blend of the classical and the ethnic, with my invented language for lyrics, I have been inundated with requests, from choirs around the world, for an Adiemus that, for the first time, included male voices as well as female. The idea of re-orchestrating a selection from the past led me to a new concept ofincreasing the forces across the board, making the whole sound massive and symphonic.”

Symphonic Adiemus – the best of Karl Jenkins as you’ve never heard it before.
