The New York Philharmonic under their Music Director Alan Gilbert start a new series on Dacapo that looks at making premiere recordings of the orchestra’s Composer-in-Residence.

This release includes a stunning collection of works by Magnus Lindberg. EXPO was the overture to Gilbert’s very first concert as the Philharmonic’s new Music Director and Lindberg’s first season as their Composer-in-Residence in 2009.

One of the leading British pianists of his generation, Peter Hill is known for his performances and recordings of 20th-century and contemporary music as well as the classical repertoire. His complete cycles of Messiaen and of Berg, Schoenberg and Webern have received superlative acclaim. The Messiaen was described as "one of the most impressive solo recording projects of recent years", New York Times, and won Messiaen’s endorsement:"Beautiful technique, a true poet: I am a passionate admirer of Peter Hill’s playing". La finta giardiniera was a resounding success: after the first performance 1774 in Rome, the opera was translated into several languages and staged in many other European cities and inspired Mozart to write an opera of the same title. This world premiere recording by the ensemble l'arte del mondo shows the exceptional skills of this little-known composer. The Spanish Catalan soprano Nuria Rial is famous for her shining, crystal clear and beautiful voice and is one of the best baroque voices for baroque arias. She was described as "a silvery sounding voice, as clear as a bell." (Opernglas) The orchestra l'arte del mondo is rooted in the Early Music tradition, but also plays on modern instruments with the same passion, performing repertoire that goes up to the Romantic period. Since it was founded, the ensemble has been invited to appear at many major festivals and concert series such as the Ludwigsburg Schlossfestspiele, the Bonn Beethoven Festival, the Schwetzingen Festival and the Sanssouci Music Festival in Potsdam.

"La Stellidaura Vendicante" (“Stellidaura’s revenge”) of 1674 is one of the most important operas of the 17th century and a 3-act opera blending tragic and comic aspects in a most entertaining way.

Italian conductor Alessandro De Marchi is one of today's leading specialists in the field of historic performing practice, on both original and modern instruments. His opera repertoire ranges from Monteverdi, Cavalli, Vivaldi and Handel through Keiser, Pergolesi and Hasse to works by Haydn, Mozart and Cimarosa.

De Marchi also performs operas by Bellini, Rossini and Donizetti on original instruments, and sees these in a historic context between Baroque and Classical opera.

Alessandro De Marchi has been principal conductor of the Academia Montis Regalis since 1998. In 2009 he was appointed artistic director of the Innsbruck Early Music Festival as successor to René Jacobs with effect from the 2010 season.

The Academia Montis Regalis (orchestra and chorus) is a Piemontese institution that has been actively promoting Early Music for many years. It started life in 1994 as a Baroque and Classical orchestra with the goal of presenting 17th and 18th century repertoire on original instruments, with attention to historic performing practice.

Released in 2006 on DVD and has since shipped over 60k units, now also available on Blu-ray.

Additionally this BD includes a concert of the piano solo and chamber music pieces, all filmed in Beijing.

The Yellow River Concerto, a large-scale, highly virtuosic piano concerto with colourful sound scales, is juxtaposed with miniature pieces for piano solo and with chamber pieces, each combining the piano with traditional Chinese instruments.

Though all the pieces were written in the early 20th century, most of them are based on much older sources, merging traditional Chinese melodies and idioms with the Western classical music tradition – the result is music of astonishing beauty and ease that will strongly appeal to a broad audience.
