Coming Soon, Hyperion launch The Classical Piano Concerto series

Hyperion launch The Classical Piano Concerto seriesWith their Romantic Piano Concerto series still going strong after over two decades (and 62 volumes!), Hyperion are taking a step back in time to launch a Classical Piano Concerto project of similar magnitude.

The first volume, which is already in the can, will focus on Jan Ladislav Dussek (1760-1812), with Howard Shelley directing the Ulster Orchestra from the keyboard; the works on the disc will be the Piano Concerto in G Op. 1 No. 3, the Piano Concerto in C Op. 29 and the Piano Concerto in E flat Op. 70.

Currently scheduled for an August 2014 release.

Recent releases in the Romantic Piano Concerto series

The latest volume in the series features Roberto Prosseda, who gave the Gounod Pedal Piano Concerto its modern premiere and here plays a specially adapted pair of Steinways; it was acclaimed by Gramophone as 'a real winner...among the very jolliest of piano-and-orchestra recordings to come my way for some time'.

Available Formats: CD, MP3, FLAC, Hi-Res FLAC

Howard Shelley's latest contribution to the series focuses on the German composer Theodor Döhler (1814-56) and the Czech Alexander Dreyschock (1818-69); he is accompanied by his long-term collaborators the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, whom he directs from the piano.

Available Formats: CD, MP3, FLAC, Hi-Res FLAC

The elegant French pianist Cédric Tiberghien is joined by the BBC Symphony Orchestra under Andrew Manze in works by Théodore Dubois (1837-1924) which were described as 'beautifully crafted, highly tuneful and harmonically daring' by The Observer.
