Coming Soon, Nick van Bloss

Nick van BlossSince making a stellar comeback in 2009 following a 15-year sabbatical from performance, Nick van Bloss has explored several cornerstones of the piano repertoire to great acclaim - his discography for Nimbus Records includes Bach's keyboard concertos and Goldberg Variations as well as Chopin's mighty B minor Sonata and 24 Preludes, which were praised by BBC Music Magazine as "beautifully moderated, unmarred by the stridency that Chopin abhorred".

It was therefore only a matter of time before he turned his attention to Beethoven; March 2015 sees the release of his new recording of the Diabelli Variations, described by Alfred Brendel as "the greatest of all piano works" and by van Bloss himself as "one of the zeniths in keyboard writing", coupled with the Appassionata Sonata, which provides a darker and more stormy counterpoint to the Variations' largely positive outlook. A disc of Beethoven sonatas will follow, with longer-term recording plans with Nimbus including Schumann’s Etudes Symphoniques and Kreisleriana.

Other recent recordings from Nick van Bloss

The first of Nick van Bloss's recordings since his return to professional performance, these Goldbergs were praised by The Observer for their 'fluidity of line, unforced lyricism...clarity of structure and counterpoint', whilst The Telegraph's Ivan Hewett 'found its joie de vivre irresistible'.

Available Formats: CD, MP3, FLAC

Van Bloss makes intelligent use of the potential of the modern concert grand piano in these performances: Classic FM observed that 'Van Bloss's touch is a delight for its delicate fluidity, overall lyricism and sense of playfulness', and International Record Review described it as 'engrossing, insightful music-making'.

Available Formats: CD, MP3, FLAC

In Chopin just as in Bach, van Bloss's playing is marked by control and clarity - MusicWeb International describes him as "as much a master of controlled rage as gentle lyricism".
