Coming Soon, Solo Bach from Gil Shaham

Solo Bach from Gil ShahamAs if his recently-launched 1930s Violin Concerto project (Volume 1 available here) wasn't enoughto be getting on with, American violinist Gil Shaham is kicking off 2015 with one of the cornerstones of the baroque violin repertoire. He's taking JS Bach's six Sonatas and Partitas for Unaccompanied Violin on tour in the United States, in an innovative project incorporating original films by David Michalek; an audio recording is due out on Canary Classics in March.

Recent recordings by Gil Shaham

(You can browse his full available discography here.)

The first in a projected series, exploring this incredibly rich decade for the violin concerto. Here Shaham starts with some of the heavyweights of the repertoire, the formidable Barber and the lyrical Berg concertos, plus those of Britten, Hartmann and Stravinsky.

Available Format: 2 CDs

A rather tongue-in-cheek reference to the increasingly common practice of using piped classical music to discourage unwanted visitors from public spaces, which also doubles as a delightful survey of Shaham's recent recordings.

Available Formats: MP3, FLAC

Shaham turns his hand to the chamber ensemble for this album, directing two Haydn concerti from the violin and leading a performance of Mendelssohn's glorious Octet in E flat.

Available Format: CD

The violin works of Spanish composer Pablo Sarasate combine a deep connection to his national roots with a sparklingly virtuosic touch - qualities which are both brought out beautifully by Shaham in this disc, released to mark Sarasate's centenary in 2008.
