Coming Soon, Franco Fagioli goes to hell and back

Franco Fagioli goes to hell and backDeutsche Grammophon announced last week that they've signed an exclusive recording deal with the phenomenal Argentine countertenor Franco Fagioli - the first of his voice-type to enter into such a relationship with the 'Yellow Label'. Fagioli has recorded two solo discs on Naive and one on Carus, as well as appearing on complete opera recordings from Virgin, Decca and Oehms.

Fagioli's first project for DG Archiv is already in the can, and scheduled for release in the autumn: he'll sing the title-role in the original Vienna version (1762) of Gluck's Orfeo, with Malin Hartelius as Euridice and Emmanuelle de Negri as Amore; Laurence Equilbey directs Accentus and Insula Orchestra. The studio recording followed live performances at the Théâtre de Poissy in northern France.

Orfeo is due out 11th September, and Fagioli's debut solo album for the label is set to be recorded later this year; more details about repertoire as soon as we have them!

Other recent recordings featuring Franco Fagioli

Fagioli certainly comes and conquers in the role of Cesare on Riccardo Minasi's new recording (a world premiere) of Vinci's all-male 1728 opera; cast also includes Max Cencic, Valer Sabadus and Juan Sancho; Classical Source praised his 'hauteur and reckless flamboyance', whilst Early Music Review observed that 'the beauty of his cantabile [is] matched by the accuracy of his divisions'.

Available Formats: MP3, FLAC, Hi-Res FLAC

Fagioli sings the role of the hero's treacherous younger brother Medarse on George Petrou's recording of the later version of Il Siroe with Armonia Atenea, which was both a Gramophone Editor's Choice and BBC Music Magazine Disc of the Month; Max Cencic is Siroe and Julia Lezhneva Laodice.

This collection of showpieces for the temperamental soprano castrato Gaetano Majorano demonstrate Fagioli's three-octave range, breathtaking coloratura and sheer vocal power to exhilarating effect; two arias from Hasse's Siroe are stand-outs.
