Matthias Goerne sings Mahler via Berio
We hear that Matthias Goerne has recorded Berio's orchestrations of eleven of Mahler's Frühe Lieder with Josep Pons and the BBC Symphony Orchestra; the disc will also include Berio's 1968 Sinfonia, for which the orchestra will be joined by The Synergy Vocals. A seasoned Mahlerian, Goerne's recent performances have included Das Lied von der Erde in Vienna with Klaus Florian Vogt and the Wiener Philharmoniker under Daniel Harding, and selections from Des Knaben Wunderhorn with Andris Nelsons at last year's Lucerne Festival; the latter performance, praised by BachTrack for Goerne's 'varying textures and volumes, perfect diction, ability to switch voice gender, strong facial expressions and complete lack of presumption', was released a couple of weeks ago on blu-ray and DVD by Accentus Music.
The recording will be released on Harmonia Mundi in August.
