Coming Soon, Forthcoming releases in Hyperion's Concertos series

Forthcoming releases in Hyperion's Concertos seriesHyperion's tireless exploration of highways and byways of Romantic concerto repertoire for piano and for violin (as well as their relatively new series devoted to the Classical Piano Concerto) have long ranked among our most popular titles; as Katherine continues to enjoy the Mozart Jnr. and Clementi from our August newsletter, and with Volume 68 of The Romantic Piano Concerto series (Australian pianist Piers Lane making a case for his compatriots George Frederick Boyle and Alfred Francis Hill) coming up on 28th October, we recently caught up with the label's director Simon Perry for an update on what's planned for 2017.

January will see new releases in both the Classical Piano Concerto and Romantic Violin Concerto series; the former features Hyperion stalwart Howard Shelley directing the London Mozart Players from the keyboard in three concertos by the Bohemian composer Leopold Koželuch (1747-1818) - No. 1 Op. 12 in F major, No. 5 Op. 15 in E flat major, and No. 6 in C major. The latter sees the superb young British violinist Jack Liebeck completing his survey of Max Bruch's concertos with the Second Violin Concerto in D minor Op. 44 (so frequently eclipsed by its predecessor, which Liebeck made a 'fresh and imaginative' [The Guardian] case for as part of the series last year). The recording, featuring the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra under Martyn Brabbins once more, will also include Bruch's Adagio appassionato for violin and orchestra in C sharp minor Op. 57, 'In Memoriam' - Adagio for violin and orchestra, Op. 65, and the Konzertstück for violin and orchestra in F sharp minor, Op. 84.

You can view the complete Romantic Violin Concerto series so far here, and the Classical Piano Concerto series (now three volumes in) here - both series are included in our Hyperion promotion (up to 25% off the entire label), which runs until 7th November 2016.
