Coming Soon, Pappano records Saint-Saëns for Warner

Pappano records Saint-Saëns for WarnerWe hear that the legendary Argentine pianist Martha Argerich will join forces with Antonio Pappano and his Santa Cecilia Orchestra to record Saint-Saëns's 'zoological fantasy' Le carnaval des animaux, due for release on Warner Classics towards the end of next year; the disc will also feature Annie Dutoit (Argerich's daughter from her second marriage to the conductor Charles Dutoit) as narrator.

Though this is their first joint recording, Argerich performed the Schumann Piano Concerto with Pappano and his Roman orchestra back in 2012; in an interview with Euronews around the time of the performance Pappano commented that he was 'just knocked over by the amount of energy that she has, but actually what she does is always extremely natural, as if the music can’t go any other way.'

More details, including the rest of the programme, as soon as we have them!

Recent and related recordings by these artists

Maxim Vengerov (violin), Philharmonia Orchestra, Antonio Pappano

'The Saint-Saëns is magically coloured and technically effortless, and Vengerov finds exactly the right vein of delicate lyricism for the slow movement. Antonio Pappano and the Philharmonia always provide nicely detailed support for the star turn.' (The Guardian)

Available Formats: Presto CD, MP3, FLAC

Martha Argerich (piano) & Itzhak Perlman (violin)

'Argerich’s piano playing is supremely alive, moving under Perlman’s muscular melody in ebbing, tugging waves.' (The Guardian)

Available Formats: CD, MP3, FLAC

Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Antonio Pappano

'Pappano’s obvious rapport with his Rome-based orchestra pays dividends in music that still bears the stigma of older, heavier performing styles. String attack is bouncy and woodwinds make some lovely sounds…affectionate performances.' (Gramophone)

Available Formats: CD, MP3, FLAC, Hi-Res FLAC

Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Antonio Pappano

'Pappano is nothing if not dynamic and wholehearted in his approach to this wonderful piece…the swagger of the Italians can be irresistible and the euphoric close of the symphony elicits a suitably noisy response.' (Gramophone)

Available Formats: CD, MP3, FLAC, Hi-Res FLAC
