Schleswig-Holstein Festival Choir & Ensemble Orchestral de Paris, Rolf Beck

The choir academy of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival was founded by its director Rolf Beck in 2002. Young singers from all over Europe, South Africa and South America meet each year and perform the works which they have rehearsed at the academy. The choir has toured all over the world and here brings its expertise to the beautiful choral music of Fauré.

“This live performance under Rolf Beck finds the Schleswig-Holstein Festival Chor Lubeck making some delicious sounds at times, ably supported by the Ensemble Orchestral de Paris, but there is not much that sticks for long in the memory. Baritone David Wilson-Johnson is in typically fine voice...The inclusion of Cantique de Jean Racine and a couple of motets is welcome.” BBC Music Magazine, November 2011 **

“his reading is characterised by extreme restraint, greatly assisted by the softly comfortable acoustic of Rendsburg's Christkirche...but this performance is both expansive (as in the Introit) and extremely intimate (as in a deliciously affectionate Agnus Dei)...Wilson-Johnson mingles majesty with gracefulness while Chiyuki Okamura produces a most enchanting performance of the "Pie Jesu".” Gramophone Magazine, October 2011

“[Wilson-Johnson's] Libera me' is noble and well projected...At its best - the pure soprano line at the start of the 'In Paradisum', for instance - Rolf Beck conducts a straightforward performance that has some admirable moments in which he teases out orchestral details, as at the climax of the Agnus Dei, where the horns sound splendid.” International Record Review, July/August 2011

Linos Harfenquintett

For years, the Linos Harp Quintet has ranked among the most distinguished ensembles in the field of chamber music. The ensemble members are successful soloists and leading members of well-known orchestras. Great successes in the media and in concert life testify to the exceptional quality of this ensemble. The attractive combination of harp, flute, violin, viola and cello inspired many French composers of Romantic and modern times to produce interesting compositions. These pieces form an important starting point for the musical work of the Linos Harp Quintet. The interspersing of works for duo, trio and quartet formations enriches the repertoire of the ensemble. These are every bit as striking as the magnificent sounds offered by the full quintet instrumentation.

Jenny Lin (piano)

The night has always been a time of enchantment; it embodies the uncanny, but also the romantic side of human existence. For her new Hänssler release Jenny Lin has selected a program of night pieces that speak to both the sensual and more complex psychological aspects of nocturnal experiences – from Debussy’s "Clair de lune" to Arthur Lourié‘s "A Phoenix Park Nocturne" to Liszt's "Liebestraum" she evokes sounds, dancing, romance, far from everyday experiences, whispering of things hidden from the light of day.

She evokes thoughts and visions from a shadowy realm that draws us into our inner world. A dramatically styled CD, perfectly expressive of human longing for the other side.

“Her opening selection, Debussy's 'Clair de lune', is starkly deliberate, straightforward and kitsch-free...The Griffes, Glinka, Turina and Lourie selections inspire some of Lin's most ravishing playing on disc...this beautifully engineered release is a welcome addition to Lin's diverse and distinct discography.” Gramophone Magazine, Awards Issue 2014
