“A cunning combination, all beautifully sung”
“few such accomplished exponents of Rossini are able to summon up the plaintive contralto-ish sonority to create the right atmosphere for Mahler. That Boulianne can project the pervasive feeling of sadness without excessive weight is partly a factor of the 'domestic' arrangements employed...one of today's most promising singers is notably well served.”
“I was at once struck by the sheer beauty of her voice, her care over nuance and her intensity in expression. It’s a vibrant voice but not excessively so...There are many superb recordings of both these cycles and it is practically impossible to pick a clear winner, but Julie Boulianne belongs among the best.”
