Gramophone Magazine

July 2006

“The real prize here is the Terzetto for two violins and viola, a minor masterpiece that Dvořák wrote for himself and two of his friends to play. Try the gently pulsing Larghetto; note how intuitively the Smetanas chart the crest of each phrase, their brightly glowing pooled tone, their unanimous attack in the dramatic middle section and the expressive projection of important counter-material. The Scherzo has just the right bracing air of engagement, a slimmed-down Slavonic Dance in all but name.”
