The BEMF and CPO have had a successful collaboration together thus far. The first production in this series was the festival’s featured work in 2003: Conradi’s Ariadne and was followed up by the hugely successful Thésée last year. Both recordings reaped enormous praise from the public and critics alike and were nominated for Grammy awards. CPO now presents Jean-Baptiste Lully’s Psyché. The Boston Early Music festival Orchestra, Paul O’Dette and Stephen Stubbs join forces once again to bring to life this captivating opera. CPO is delighted to present British soprano Carolyn Sampson as she takes the leading role. “This is a magnificent and important recording — the only one available — of Lully’s 1678 tragédie en musique. First among a cast of equals, Carolyn Sampson sings the title role endearingly, making a telling contrast with the darker-hued and captivatingly ruthless Venus of Karina Gauvin.
