Angelika Kirchschlager sings Joseph Marx

CPO is delighted to present the acclaimed Austrian mezzo-soprano Angelika Kirchschlager in her debut recording for CPO. Kirchschlager, one of today’s most renowned lieder singers, was absolutely captivated by the lyrical charm and the incredibly multifaceted expressive power of Marx’s songs.

Kirchschlager is joined by Anthony Spiri on the piano and together they have produced an exemplary recording for CPO. The songs from the Italienisches Liederbuch of 1912 display all sorts of different moods (dramatic, delightful, gloomy, humorous), and one quickly understands why Marx’s compositions were so popular during his lifetime.
