“It's easy to see the attraction of the music, which is uncomplicated and generally easy on the ear, rather like John Adams with Japanese inflections and birdsong. The Cello Concerto gets away from this model a little more, especially in the first movement... Peter Dixon, the dedicatee, is completely on top of the solo part, including bird-like cries and screeches, and the orchestra is plainly enjoying itself throughout.”
