Hans Krása was a Czech composer who died in the Holocaust. He helped to organize cultural life in the Theresienstadt concentration camp. Brundibár was the last work which he completed before he was arrested by the Nazis in 1942. Krása was sent to Theresienstadt where he reworked the opera for the available forces. It was performed in the camp 55 times and featured in a Red Cross film in 1944.
