Boccherini’s first six quartets, Op.2, are relatively well known but Op.8 is an undeservedly obscure work that has only been recorded a few times. Each quartet is a jewel in itself and as a set they sparkle wonderfully. The Arteria String Quartet is an American ensemble that specializes in historical performances, particularly of the works of Mozart, Haydn and Boccherini.
